OVERVIEW OF THE COMPETITIONS

There are THREE COMPETITIONS to enter with major prizes to win:

The Giro D'Italia competition
The Tour de France competition
The Vuelta a España competition

There are prizes on offer for playing each of the individual tours. You do NOT need to take part in all three tours to win great prizes.

You build points for your team by competing in the following FOUR SECTIONS per tour:

General Classification
Mountain Classification
Classification by Points
Stage by Stage

The sum of your points from these four sections then makes up your total tour points. The team with the highest tour points wins the individual tour prize.

The points system is based on UCI scoring method. See the POINTS section and the UCI website www.uci.ch for further details.

GETTING STARTED

You sign up per individual Tour and create your teams of 15 from the official racelist of approximately ~200 listed UCI riders. Each tour will have a different racelist specific to that tour. You can compete in one tour or in all three tours. There are excellent prizes on offer in all three indidivual tours.

Managers have 8500 points allocated to build each tour team.

There is no transfer of points from one tour to the next if a manager does not use all their points in selecting the 15 riders in one specific tour. Each manager receives points to buy their team of 15 riders with.

Create as many teams as you want. Try as many teams as you like for free during stages 1-6. You only need to pay for the teams you want to enter in the game by stage 7, Sat 6th Sept. In the Grande Tours you need 21 credits to enter one team.

MANAGING YOUR TEAMS

Once you have selected your team of 15 you then have to pick the best 9 riders to compete in each of the FOUR sections per tour.

POINTS

The scoring is based on UCI points system. We have adapted it for game play purposes to keep the game exciting and competitive and to give an authentic and real to life experience of managing a race team.

The points scoring system is simple. Some general details to remember are:

The only section you are awarded points from on a daily basis is the stage-by-stage competition.

These stage-by-stage points are based on the top 15 fastest riders in each stage and the extra bonus score for winning a tour while being overall tour leader.

The General Classification, Classification by Points, and Mountain Classification sections award points at the end of the tour based on UCI points allocations.

You will not receive points for any of your 15 riders that are not amongst the selected 9 for each competition.

Stage by Stage points summary

You get stage-by-stage points if one or more of your riders are in the top 15 fastest stage times.

You also get 20 bonus points for being the overall tour leader (fastest overall time).

TTT - Special Stages - Team Time Trials

TTT are special stages where whole teams sprint together over a set distance.

TTT points are scored on an individual rider's time. Effectively points are scored in the team trial stages as in any other stage. Where the race organisers release individual riders' times we will use them.

However where these are not available (e.g. Giro 2006 stage 5) we will give the points to the Team Leader of the top placing Teams. For more information see EXAMPLE 5 below. The GC, PTS and MTN elements of the game will be updated and followed as normal.

Prize Placings

Final placings for each of the Grand Tours is determined by the sum of:

Total Stage-by-stage competition points
+

General Classification points as awarded by UCI at Tour end
+

Classification by Points points awarded by UCI at Tour end
+

Mountain Classification points awarded by UCI at Tour end

Click to Expand EXAMPLE 6: Total points per tour

Any ties in ranking for prizes will be resolved by awarding the team with the highest Stage then GC points the relevant prizes accordingly.

JOINING MID TOUR

If you join a tour after the start date you can still take part with just as good a chance of winning as a manager who joined before stage 1. All you need to do is to make sure you select 9 riders for each of the stages 1-6 before the deadline. See the Stages 1-6 section below for more details.

Once you sign up you will then create your own team of 15 riders and select your 9 riders to partake in each of the four sections per tour.

You will not however be able to join the game after the following stage time
  Stage 7, Sat 6th Sept after 12:55 UTC+2

If you have any questions you may find answers in the HELP section.

Alternatively you can email our help team who will be happy to assist with any questions.

Stages 1-6

You can re-edit and re-enter teams for stages 1-6 of the Vuelta a España Game 2008 competition up until stage 7 begins. It is worth doing this because even though you can change your selection of 9 riders the points still count.

This gives you the following benefits:

An opportunity to understand how the game works

The chance to experiment with team and rider selections for free

Try out combinations of riders for all 4 sections

Only pay for the teams you decide to continue with

Ensures you are happy with your final team selection for stage 7 and onwards when the competition really begins

You must have paid your race fees for your teams before stage 7 commences (by 12:55 UTC+2) to enter the competition. The payment of these fees is by use of a "race credits" system. You must first purchase some credits via our new Google Checkout system, via your own PayPal account, or with our dedicated online credit card processing at Netbanx.

Before stage 7 begins you need to decide on your finalised teams of 15 riders. You will also decide on your finalised 9 riders within the General Classification, Mountain Classification, and Classification by Points sections.

The 9 riders for the stage-by-stage section can of course be changed, from your 15 riders, on a stage-by-stage basis up until the last stage.

If you change your 15 riders before stage 7, you keep only those points accumulated by the your selections of 9 riders from your final 15.

We will send you an e-mail a few days before to remind you to have a think about which finalised teams you’re going to continue with.
